How am I qualified to help you?
Hello, I'm Ross Boyd. Good to meet you. Let me tell you what I do.
I work with leadership teams and organisations where the bar keeps going up and the headcount doesn't. Everyone's busy, things seem like they're not moving at the pace they should and people have quietly embraced the status quo. Through keynotes, workshops and coaching, I help organisations forge cohesion, develop engagement and start delivering together. Here's why I'm qualified to do that:
I learned leadership before I learned anything else. Most people become technical experts and get promoted for technical ability, leadership training is often an afterthought or retrofitted in a hurry. In the military you start with a long and deep foundation in leadership, then your technical training follows. Lead first. Specialise second. I spent ten years as an infantry officer either preparing to deploy or deployed on operations in Afghanistan. At 26, I was responsible for the lives of 30 soldiers. On my final tour, I was awarded an MBE for leadership. The team that knew its task might be impossible and the outcomes unpredictable, but our operating system was not.
I've led inside a business under pressure. I left the Army for Virgin Money, where I spent five years as Chief of Staff to the CEO through the bank's stock market flotation. I then went from the top of the organisation to the coalface, helping build a digital bank from scratch. An acquisition shut it down a month before launch. I know what change feels like from the inside, not just from the facilitator's chair.
I've broken, and I've studied why. In 2017, years of toughing it out caught up with me. Burnout and post-traumatic stress caught up with me. I retrained with a master's in psychology. Converts make the most fanatical zealots and I dedicated my research to resilience. My research shows that individual resilience predicts for 28% of overall workplace engagement.
I've sparked change in organisations you'll know. In eight years of running my coaching practice I've worked across AI, PE, financial services, FMCG, marketplaces, utilities and engineering. From ExCo offsites and leadership assessments to all-hands keynotes.
Today, I'm a keynote speaker, executive coach and business psychologist, and the founder of The Credo Contingent. I live in Edinburgh with my wife Sarah and our three daughters.
